I just bought a 19' thats been setting for 3 years.
the removable fishing seats in the front have been taken off the poles and set in the holes. The guy I bought it from, said this is common for these to freeze in the holes and just to pound them out. I pounded and pounded but no luck. Anyone had this issue? I just don't want to tear up the things they go into.

try PB blaster penetrating oil. It works better than just about anything at getting rusty hardware off.

Get yourself a strap wrench and try twisting them

Re: Fishing seats stuck in floor

I just took mine off to take them to work and press the posts out of the bases on the Hyd. press. I put up with it that way all of last year and decided to get them fixed this year. I will press them out, clean the bases up with a honing brush and probably make new stainless pins for in the posts.

I don't know why they sieze up but mine just kind of bound up overnight and I couldn't get them out with PB blaster, strap wrenches, anything I tried.

It's not a bad job, one guy goes under the boat with a wrench and another guy runs the base screws out with a drill. I took about 5 minutes to get them off. I've had them off since Sunday and I'm giving them a PB blaster bath every now and then to hopefully ease the pressing out process.

Good Luck :D

PB Blaster,,,let soak awhile. Go under the boat with a punch about the size of the hole the pin goes into and knock it out. When you go back with it put some "Never Seize" on the pins before inserting them.
If you cant find never seize get some Breech plug antiseize compound which is used on blackpowder rifles at your local walmart gun section, I guarantee they wont get stuck again.

Before I took my bases off I got under mine and put a beam across the trailer rails and jacked them up with a floor jack. It lifted the boat off the trailer and still diddn't push the posts out of the bases. I took them in to work and pushed them out with a 100 ton hyd press. I won't say the press struggled but it popped a couple of times (like an impact wrench, or jack hammer does) before they broke loose. You could have beat on these from underneath with a 6 pound hammer for 20 years and never broken them loose.

Once I got them out I saw that the posts had a teflon or something like that coating on them so I left those alone. It seemed like the nylon sleeves in the bases had swollen and were holding onto the seat pins. The seat pins measured .743 so I ran a .750 reamer through the sleeves and brushed a thin coating of the above mentioned never-seize on the pins and all is well again. Be careful with the never-seize it has a powder like graphite or aluminum in it and it will make an awful mess of anything you get it on.

Thanks for all the replies.
looks like I will take the plates out and push them out with a press, that looks like what Ill have to do, just will have to cut carpet cause its laid over the top. Wife hates that idea so was trying to get some feedback first. tried for a week and tried most all of your suggestions with no luck. I did not mention that the seats turn in there holes but still not comming out. oh well

If they are turning in the holes they probably have some sort of locking mechanism to keep them in the holes. Look for a button or some sort of spring devive on the side to push in while you pull up on them. I had this combination of tight pins and a locking device on a Starcraft I had and the pedastals were a major PITA to get out.

If you have to cut the carpet cut it in an X from corner to corner and peal it back. It can be glued back when you are done and you really can't see that it was cut.
