Usually not home on Saturdays so don't usually see what goes on, bass tournament on the lake this weekend.
Thanks to the ten or so tournament boats that came in and out of cove each day like normal people.
To the one A__H____ who comes in cove blowing past no wake sign, within 10' feet of piers with boats tied up to them, throwing at least 1' wake, then does the same thing going out about 10 minutes later, hope I can find a site to post your pictures so your buddies will know what you are and how much you help their image out. Guess that 200 won't idle down.
Not young guys ether, 50-60's.

Even 99.99% of the jet ski's respect the no wake signs.

[sarcasm on]
Don't you see. These guys are out there trying to make a living. They have to drive fast. You peons on the lake, in that cove....well you ought to buy a house somewhere else.

Professional bass pros don't have to follow any rules. They're celebrities. The sooner you recognize that the sooner you'll start treating them like the big stars they are.
[sarcasm off]

Re: Fishing Tournament

Yup,I hear that.If I had a dollar for every bass fisherman that I've seen blowing through no wake zones or powering on at the ramp,(power loading your boat is illegal in these parts)I'd have enough dough to move near some big water.I won't generalize,or make overall statements about these clowns but when I see a hi-po fishing rig,it's almost guarnteed he's going too fast or breaking some sorta' rule.Sorry, but I see it all the time....If the guy has been a total a**hole,I just wait till I see 'em with his line in the water, and get close and go by very fast or extra slow.Either way the smoky old Merc is gonna' scare any fish within 600 fathoms-F##k 'em!!I hate havin' to lower myself to thier standards but,it's fun to **** 'em off when obviously they can't follow rules or show any respect for other people.I guess owning a $35,000 bass rig gives you special priveleges.Must make you a better fisherman too I guess.See ya' later,C.C.

Re: Fishing Tournament

I've been fortunate. Our cove is a great fishing cove and I have yet to see a bass boat come flying through.. Usually when they come through, it's with their trolling moter and they are casting.

There are other fools in boats and pwcs that can't read a no-wake zone. this is not a rant on pwc's as I also own one, but it's not the boat/pwc/etc...it's the inconsiderate fools that operate them.

On the flip side im one of those T guys. Although im not that dumb, alot of morons who think they own the lake because they have a million dollar house and 40 foot tri engine speed boat do the same thing along with guys and kids on PWC. Atleast were using the lake like nature intended, FISHING! I dont care if its a basser or a reg joe read the signs and obey the rules. No wake means NO WAKE, and dont blow by me goin balls out goin full throttle because I will tag your boat with a paintball gun.. :p

Re: Fishing Tournament

The folks who put on these tournaments, the sponsors, and the other tournament fishermen need to put a stop to this behavior on the part of SOME of the tournament fishermen.

That's the only solution. A couple of pros getting disqualified and banned will soon end the unsafe and illegal boat operation.

I suggest that folks take photos of the offending boat, blow them up, check the sponsor names on the boat, then send the photos to the CEO of the sponsoring companies, with a letter describing the illegal or unsafe behavior. Send a copy to the tournament organizer and to B.A.S.S, too.

I fish...a lot...but I would never go on any lake on a day where a tournament was taking place. I used to, but I finally got sick of the piggish behavior some tournament fishermen display. I don't watch tournaments on TV, either.

Fishing is something I do for the pleasure of it. Anything that interferes with that pleasure is a negative for me.

CAT, that is exactly what needs done. Unfortunately it is the minority of ignorant tourney fisherman that give the rest a bad name. Take them to task and make the rude ones known to their peers. If the piggish behavior doesn't stop in the minority, it will ruin it for the majority and the sponsors do know this.

Re: Fishing Tournament

This was only boat out of probaly 15-20 that came in that wasn't working the piers on the trolling motor. They blasted straight to end of cove, fished less that 10 minutes, then blasted back out. Pics were from too much of back angle to see numbers, no sponsor names on boat or shirts, just new 18' sparkley probaly 30K rig with 200 Merc. Never fished a tourny, don't intend to, but bet ain't too many won trolling behind a 200.

Re: Fishing Tournament

Speedwrench,

Could be that the boat was full of wannabe tournament fisherment, getting a contact high. That's pathetic.

Now, me, if I had been on the lake, I might have stopped in the cove and watched for a while and learned something from the pros.

Waterballoon slingshots work great for taking care of the offending boaters in no wake zones...I taught a lesson to more than a few "Jim Bobs" and "Guidos" this way.

Look out, there. Texas is full of guys who are carrying. Although it's a great picture, and harmless enough.

Re: Fishing Tournament

CAT you right about the concealed carry permit, you should hear some of the chatter on my local fishing board.

There's a ton of local fishing clubs around here, lots of times could be two or three tournaments on a lake same day. Most of these club guys are just regular weekend fishermen who mostly observe boat ettiquette, but you get those pretenders in the 200hp rigs pretending it's the pro tour & blasting through oblivious to every thing else.

Correct me if I'm wrong somebody but don't most of the pro tour events have strict DQ rules about boating laws?

Re: Fishing Tournament

Well, I used to tournament fish, its been 20+ years though. I stopped becuse of just what you all are saying about them, so its nothing new. I didnt want to be associated with them. It was either quite or kill someone, and I didnt want to go to jail for something someone else did. I used to be quite a hothead. I actually boarded another guys boat one time. Believe me he never cut me off or anyone else like he did agin.
