Fishmark 480

hey everyone i got a eagle fishmark 480 not even a year old and i am having a power problem. just this past boating trip i went to power off the unit like i always do and i held the button and shut my main power switch off, walked away didnt notice anything. well i got home, i turned my power switch (which feeds power to the 480)to check my voltage and my unit came on when i flipped the switch. now when i turn the main power on the unit turns on and i cant turn it off. when i hold the power in to shut it off it will turn off for a couple seceonds then turn back on by its self. is there a software update or are they having problems with them? i'm a little confused. thanks for any replies

JC,<br />I have a fishmark 320 and havent had that problem yet.That being said, I have an older eagle graph that you can turn it on, but you cant turn it off without shutting down master power.My cousin and another friend of mine have eagle graphs and they have the same problem.Seems like a eagle problem to me.But dont get me wrong,I love my 320 and I hvent had any problems so far.I suggest that you email them and see what they say.But, be patient,it takes them awhile to respond.Another option would be to just leave it on while its in your driveway,and turn your fish alarm on.That way you catch the renegade fish that hitchhiked on your trailer the last time you were in the water.

Sounds like the power switch is shorted out and as such, it keeps turning the unit on. Fixing it would require a new switch. I am not sure how much experience you have with electronics but assuimg the unit is out of warranty, you could open it up and with an ohm-meter, check the resistance accross the contacts. If it shows somethe close to zero, then it is shorted out.<br /><br />Not sure if you can buy the switch seperately though so the diagnosis may not do you much good. The switch is spring loaded so maybe something has gone wrong there. <br /><br />Amir

I had a similar problem with my 480 once, where it wouldn't turn off (was wired direct to battery) and I finally disconnected the fuse, re-connected, and everything worked fine afterwards. I later wired it through the accessory switch in case that happened again, but so far has not. I don't know if this is the same problem as you are having, but maybe it will help.

You probably have this thing resolved long ago, but I thought I would add a comment while I'm here that might help others that experience the same type of problem.

I too bought the Fishmark 480 and love it. The resolution is wild. I had it about 7 or 8 months when it wouldn't power on half the time... and acted strange. I finally checked the voltage at the in-line fuse wire. 6-8. Skinned back some wire and found major corrosion in the piece of wire from the battery to the fuse. It was auto type wiring and I fish a lot of saltwater. All of my wiring is marine grade expect for the spliced in in-line fuse. I replaced it and every thing was instantly back to normal. Hope this helps.
