Fitting a boat in a garage??

Hey all, i am trying to figure out what can fit in my garage. The "home owners association" does not allow boats in driveways. Because of this i am looking for like 16-18ft center console like a seafox or a keylargo. what what be a size of like a 17fter with a 50-90hp on it in length from front of trailer to all the way back?

Add 6 feet to the hull length- 3.5 for the trailer tongue and 2.5 for the outboard. You might be able to gain a bit if you fit the boat in on a bit of a diagonal. You can also get trailers with swing-away tongues.

I measured my garage before I bought my boat and trailer. When I put the boat in the garage I have 2 inches left, lol.

I live in a condo with a garage that is generously listed at 20'x20'. Actual measure from the back wall to the lip on the garage door is 19'4". My boat is just under 17' feet and, as noted above, measures just about 23' at full flower. I have a swing tongue and that, along with some creative angling, allows me to get my boat in the garage. Even the salesman at the marina expressed doubt I could get it in. I told him I could get it in but I wasn't sure I could still get my Jeep in. Worked out good.

I back it in to a marked spot on the floor, drop the motor down and turn it full port, swing the tongue and push it back while pushing the bow toward the wall. When I'm done, the engine cowling is barely touching the back wall and the forward part of the tongue is about an inch behind the door track.Still plenty of room for the Jeep.

Yep based on Jim's measurements i think a 17ft bay boat is the best i can do. Sucks i cannot even get a t top due to height.

The tongue on my trailer has 2 pins and quick disconnect brake like and pulls out of the trailer. I takes about 3.5' off the length. On the back of the garage I put what looks like a doghouse off the back to fit the drive in. I have a 20' 2" boat in a 24' garage. Sometimes you have to get creative. It also depends on how the boat sits on it's trailer.

That is a good reason not to live in an area that has a "homeowners group" Just hate the thought of someone telling me how to live in my own home. A lot of people do it I guess.

Nothing worse than having a derelict car parked next to your house, or a boat on the lawn with grass growing around it, with the tires sunk into the ground and a ripped blue tarp flapping in the breeze. No thanks, I'll stick with a HOA. Anybody can live in their home any way they want, but when they crap up the neighborhood its the neighbors property values that suffer.

Besides, if my boat is trailerable it belongs in the garage just to keep it pristine.

As much as I hate HOA
I to believe you should have a garage, shed or enclosed car port.
We had an issue last summer where a kid vandalized the neighborhood.
It is a water access community so a lot of neighbors leave everything on the rear of the house where the water access is.

He stole outboards, canoes, kayaks , a couple of Jon boats, skiffs and ribs.
Yes he was on a crime spree. This went on over the course of about two months.
Everybody eventually got everything back and his parents paid the damages, but that's not the point.
Had everything been in a Locked garage. The temptation would not have been there to start with.

That is what bothers me about leaving a boat in public storage. How do you protect it.
I prefer lockable storage . Preferably a garage or storage shed on my property

Yep I agree wholehardly, in our area (out in the country) we do not put up with that crap either but we as neighbors get together and make the guilty party understand they cannot make our area look like a dump. We have many persuasive ways to get them to see the light, and after talking with them we have not had any problems. Most in the area are not a problem, but when a problem does occur it gets addressed immediately and yes it gets resolved in a very short time. We have no problem with items in the yard as long as it is maintained in a tastefull manor. I understand many people like the forced community rules, but at times they can become quite overbearing. And yes I do keep my boat in a building, it did not fit in my garage so I built a pole barn to house it....a benefit of living in the country.

Seems you have two options for your predicament. First you could build a boat/shop and make it look like it was there forever complementing your house. That is how our community association specifies and I complied with as well. OR, you could do like my next door neighbor did when they still lived there yet. He backed his boat and back it and back it some more and finally was able to close the garage door without hitting the trailer tongue. However, his OD engine was then punctured through the drywall and into his house. I thought that was so funny to see...
