I'm going to purchase my plywood for my deck on my 16' aluminum boat. The old plywood was in 2 pieces. The small piece at the bow can be cut from a 4ftx 4 ft piece. but the large piece is 9ft. x 56 in. of 1/2 plywood. 10' x 5' plywood is not available in 1/2.

Will splitting that large piece into three sections affect the structural properties of the boat??

Thanks

I had to scarf joint my ply to get it to 10 feet then I put the joint right over a rib to reinforce it.

Not sur what a scarf joint is??

Could I do it in 3 foot sections and use a aluminum plate under the butted pieces? like what they used on the orininal? see attached.. Not sure if you can see the flat aluminum stock across the z beam in the photo. But could I use something like thatto connect the three sections that would make the original 9 foot section?

My other option would be to go to 3/4 in plywood except it quadruples in cost over a 4x 8 sheet of 3/4.
