Fitting an outboard

Hi all,

I am contemplating buying a Zodiac Ribster 530, a 'packable' RIB. I would like to know how easy it is to fit a single 75hp 2-stroke outboard engine to the back. I'd like it to be electric start with center steering. I have not ordered an engine yet. I can get the dealer to fit the engine on the stern, but it will take months for them to do it - can i do it easily myself? I hope this is the right forum for this question?

Thanks for any help

it really depends on how handy you are. any experience with outboards, or other boat maintenance? i looked at the boat, interesting. a 75hp is a lot of motor to be installing, and removing. it does not look trailerable.

Re: Fitting an outboard

Hi there,

the boat is trailerable which is good, it'll act like a normal RIB when fully inflated. A 75hp is recommended, Specs say it can handle up to a 90, although this may get a bit bumpy over the waves! I have a some experience in boat maintenance and some with outboards. main query is about siting the through transom bolts. I was planning on placing a reinforcing steel/aluminum plate under the pan washers to distribute the engines weight better across the transom. Clearly on the centreline, but how do i get the depth correct? i have access to a winch, so the weight of the 75 shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for your help!
