Fitting impeller on sea horse

Im replacing my impeller, should the blades curve towards the direction of travel or away?

Hold the cup down over the impeller while turning the shaft clockwise.<br />It really doesn't matter because when you fire the engine up the impeller tangs will right them selves.<br />Hope this helps.

Twist the driveshaft clockwise (looking down) as you push the housing down. With a little liquid soap of some kind, it'll slip in there like a you-know-what into a you-know-where and all the vanes will be in the right direction.<br /><br />Sometimes I twist the impeller into the housing first with a needlenose pliers. Twist it in counterclockwise from the bottom, line up the holes, then slide the pair down the driveshaft. Then you just have to align the key and impeller keyway.

I've heard, somewhere but don't remember where, to lube the water pump impeller w/petroleum jelly prior to start-up, to provide initial lubrication. Anyone else heard that?

I haven't heard that but I do lube it, or for that anything that moves against anything gets some sort of lube just for breakin.

My Seloc manual says to lube the inside of the housing with light oil, which I did, and the impeller went in very easily.

Lubeing an impeller before inital start up is good practice.
