I got a few more outboards today. Just looking for some info on my new toys.

first in question is sea king:

Its a long shaft, which I dont like. could I take this thing off?

It has good compression, but the coils might be shot:

Ideas on what it is and where I might find coils?

Re: five sea king

It's a 63 Gale (reverse first two numbers) Sea King 5hp I believe. Yes you can make it a short shaft by removing the exhaust housing extension (shown in your pix), going to a shorter driveshaft, water tube and shift rod connector. All should be available with a little digging. Nice stout outboards...basically a generic OMC/Evinrude/Johnson. Your coils are beyond fried...they are toast, old toast my friend. Also easily replaceable as are other parts under the flywheel....OMC's universal magneto was a great thing.

Wow, that is a lot of stuff to find.
I was hoping I was going to get lucky and that it was some kind of extension kit that extended everything a few inches. hahhaha Back to dreaming I guess

Get your coils right here at iboats. Just pretend it's an Evinrude.

$18?!?!?! for a coil?! Crap. Thats more than the outboard cost!
Price of boats I guess.

Anyway to see if it'll actually run before forking over $40 on coils?

Maybe hook up a VW coil to a 12v battery to generate a spark?

They're good motors so the $40 for coils is worth it.

That's a good deal, depends on what the final bid is.

So after forgetting to big on those coils, I just ordered some.

However, I lost the spark plugs.

What kind do I need? And is it something autozone sells?

Champion J6C, gapped at .030". Same as the JohnnyRudes of that period.
