Fix and sell boat or part it out?

I have a old and rough but good tri-hull that I need to sell. I was looking at used boat prices and at part prices on ebay. It seems like I can get a lot more for the boat if I part it out and put the remnants on craigslist. It has an great working stringer drive, and a great hull and floor, but the boat needs carpeting, seats, front cushions and sides. In order to get it into sellable condition I will need to put about $500 and a couple days of work into it. Because of what stringer's go for on ebay, I think I could part it out and get just as much money without the $500 investment.

I'd really hate to rip apart a good boat, but I'm not interested in tri-hulls any more and I could put that money and some of the hard to find parts into my 28' cabin cruiser.

I'd like to hear other people's opinions.

Sadly, I have to say the way to go is to part it out... without some more detailed info on what the engine is, etc. its hard to say what all the pieces are worth, but I have an old trihull as well, and its worth more in pieces, than whole, and its been completely redone...

I say part it out... if you spend the 500 now, with this economy, than there is no garauntee you will get the extra money back by selling the whole boat...

Good luck with it.

It has a OMC electric shift stringer with a tired but dependable 305 with new heads and a new carb. The tri-hull is 18' long and as an 8.5' beam and is very deep.

I just parted out an old boat I couldn't give away. Got $1500 for the outdrive, $1000 for the trailer, sold a bunch of misc crap on ebay, just have the 5.7 left.

Part it out...take the hull to the land fill...Its fun to watch them crush the hull...;)
Then sell the trailer.
