Fix or part out...?

I bought a 9.9 Gamefisher/Force on Ebay last month. I got screwed on the deal; it was cosmetically damaged and supposedly had never been run. The cosmetic damage was true, but the motor had been run (carbon built up on pistons and plugs) and the motor only turns 3/4 of the way in each direction because something is holding up the crank. My mechanic believes it is a broken rod or rod bolt.

Anyway, I have to decide whether or not to get this fixed or part it out.

What do you think is best? I have all of the parts needed to fix the cosmetic damage from Sears (about $400 worth) that I can return, I think. So, with what I paid for the motor, I have $870 into this motor already.

I would not do major repairs on a Chrysler or Force. Were it a Yammy, JohnnyRude or even a Merc I would fix it.

Part it out and see if you can get your original investment back.

I'd pull the head off first, just to see whats up.
I have heard some stories, .... like opening up a motor and finding a socket extention inside.

Pull it apart and look at it. Atleast you will be able to give an accurate description of the damage.
