Please be patient with me.. I'm about tO my wits end
With the bayliner.

Quick story.

Went out an found the 1989 Capri with 302 was not charging..
Had a bad regulator on the alt. before replacing the alternator I
Had removed it and placed long lead wires to all 4 connections on the rear
Of the the alt.. I put the alt. back on and turned the key..

Sense that moment, the engine cranks strong, but does not continue to run or
Actually stay started.

What I know At this point:

The alt. is a fresh rebuild.. Just got it back.

The batt. Is fresh and. Hitting out 12.5 volts

The carb is getting fuel.. And has good pressure.

Both fuses are good, the safety switch seems to be fine

The coil is newer and is getting the cap hot...
I tested it with a tester.

But from there I have no idea why my boat
Isnt starting. Please help me before I callaps.

by chance you might had had one of the terminals short out when you took it off/back on and it could have blown a fuse, relay, or link. Check it out first before taking stuff back apart.

I used a spark plug tester to test the line to the top of the cap.

I checked the fuses. All good. Think the points are cooked?

make sure the distributor cap is correct to which cylinder should be firing. easiest way to find that out is locate the #1 plug wire on cap, remove cap. remember position of the #1 plug, disconnect the coil, so u dont shock urself, and with a friend have them start the motor and watch and see where the rotor is facing when u feel the compression on the #1 cylinder. and if its off, get it closest to where the rotor is on the cap and redo the firing order. hopefully this helps and makes sense.
