Fixing small leak on base gasket of 2000 225 hp fitch?

I have a small leak on base gasket between head and mid section. I purchased the boat 4 years ago and it has been running fine. When I took cowling off I noticed the leak. Based on the orange coloured caulking or sealant at the leak point it appears that was a fix used at least four years ago. I'd prefer to just clean off the caulking and replace to get through the summer boating season then get the gasket replaced in the fall. Anyone have any idea what the orange caulking or sealant might be?

What type of leak is it, water, exhaust?
If it is a water leak you can probably use any type of sealer. If it is exhaust you are going to have to use a temp resistant sealer.

Thanks for the quick replay. It's a small water leak that they (I assume the marina as the owner had them do all the maintenance) obviously used some orange caulking or sealant to fix. It feels a bit like rubber? I've never seen orange sealant so I was wondering if it was special.

You can get sealant in several different colors, make sure you clean thec ontact area really good so the sealant will stick.
