Fixing some slip rash on the nose....

Hey guys - TOTAL newbie here - and totally new to owning a boat. From what I have seen on this forum there are some complete STUDS around with a wealth of information to share - so here I go.

I bought this boat about a month ago - it has a little bit of rash on the nose. I wish I had better pictures, but I already put the boat in storage - and then I found this site -

Question/Questions - How do I go about repairing this? Is it a total "gelcoat" thing? Or is it more than that? The top looks like the "paint" is rubbed off (seems minor). The spot on the hull looks a bit deeper - and looks like it was rubbed until the fiberglass is showing a bit more....It is still solid, and the spot is obviously fairly small.....Just not sure what steps are required to fix, or how easily I can do it. OR - is it something I should just take to someone to fix - (If so, how much would the repair be?)

Thanks in advance for the replys!!

There are a couple of step by step gel coat fixes on you tube. I have personally never done but it does'nt seem to difficult. In a few months when I put my boat together I plan on fixing a couple of nicks .

Is it gelcoat + paint? Or is it just attempting to match the blue gelcoat? It looks like there was white gelcoat below, and then blue paint applied....is this correct?

It's hard to tell from the pictures how bad the damage is, but I used gelcoat repair filler on my keel, come up looking great. You just build it up, wait 30 minutes for it to set then sand it down level.
As long as the fiberglass isn't damaged a 2 pac filler should be enough, but if the glass is damaged or shaved it will need to be built back up, I haven't done much fiberglass work so I won't try offer any advise on that. Just make sure any filler you use matches the color of your boat, I didn't get an exact match so now I'm going to have to repaint the hull after the fishing season. Here's a link to the keel repair pictures of my boat if you want to take a look. It came up looking good but as I said, it now needs a respray.

I can't help but think if the nose damage is from the anchor rope. After you fix the rash, take care to not re-create the conditions that caused it in the first place. mtcw

Three08 - Wow....that hull turned out great! Thanks for the information! My damage is very similar to yours - I am happy to see I can take care of it with relative ease.

wellsc1 - thanks for the tip - You are right, that is what it looks like. (for the top part.)
