Flairing compound

I need to know at what stage you apply a flairing compound. I am biulding a boat from plywood and than glassing it.
I neew to know the steps.

you apply fairing compound after the fiberglass and before the gelcoat.

Thanks for the reply. Would I apply it on the matt or on the finish cloth. I am painting the boat.
