Hey guys,

the paint on my windshield frame is flaking off, i don't know if it's the original paint or that it had been painted at a later date, i bought the bought second hand.

Underneath the flaking paint the aluminium seems pitted and white, i did try aluminium cleaner on a section and it does clean it up, not mirror sparkling but the ptting ofcourse remains, it's not massive pitting but noticeable to me.

Do i repaint?

cheers guys

Leo

I would remove the shield... scrape off as much peeling paint you can.

Next is sand blast it ( small cheapo blaster would do fine ).

Then all at one time.. Alumiprep,Alodine and Zinc chromate prime. Like this..

Then fill all the pinholes with some acrylic putty with a razor blade.

Reprep/fair.. and reprime ( I like the 2 part epoxy primer ). Let that cure then reprep w/320 grit and paint with a good 2 part paint ( or some auto repair suppliers can sell you a good 1 part flake paint in a rattle can ).

Reinstall.

There are other ways but this is how I would do it.
