I have been having an overheating issue on high rms only. I replaced impeller, thermostat, shift shaft bushing(gear oil leak as well). I remember taking the impeller apart after original install and found small black I think plastic pieces in impeller housing. The impeller did not look degraded in any way.Could this be the exhaust flapper and if it could be can it be removed or checked anyway with the boat in the water. Dont want to sink if i take the exhaust bellow off!!! When I check the oil it is high before running and fine after I shut it off? It was recently changed but I cant tell if there is water in there it is not milky. Used quicksilver oil so not sure if it will mix when water is on oil pan.

Sir i thought we had this nailed thru other posts. I understand your concern. I take young children on my boat so i want to be safe also.

If the temp does not go over 180 you can wait till the winter to yank the riser.

However If the temp. goes over 185 you have a immediate problem that needs to be addressed.

That being said you can pull the riser on the water no problem you wont sink.

No water in the oil believe me you will know, would look like a milkshake.

It's you boat do what you feel most comfortable doing.

Good luck

I took it out yesterday and it climbed to 190 and seemed to still climb. I am clad you answered the call again. Just want to try all the cheap stuff before the risers. I should have bought a dog! Just was trying toi cover all the basis. I dont know when the risers were replaced if ever and will definately check but would love to find a silly answer to issue if possible. Just want to be sure water wont come in when checking the shutter valve. Glad to read i wont will be checking that tomorrow. If its not that guess 15 mph on the lake will have to suffice.
