Flat bottom or V hull ?

I have a fibreglass 11ft 2inch coleman crawdad,I have used it in lakes and it does good, im a little nervous about taking it on the Sacramento river,I have a 9.8 mercury for it now , hoping it will be fine, Im told it wont hold a lot of weight, so im thinking of getting 12ft aluminum V hull boat, that it would be safer, any advise plz ??, thnx.

if you take pictures and post them of both boats we can better judge, theres many 12' boats with different specs

Generally speaking, a 10 hp engine on a 12' boat will run out well enough for you to enjoy the experience, unless your boat is water logged or is a dog for some other reason. On an alum Flat or SV it will be really nice. I ran a 7.5 on such a boat and had a lot of fun with it regardless of whether I fished or duck hunted.

If you are running in a river with the current you add your speed to it. Against it, your speed is subtracted from it. Don't know about your rivers mentioned. Case in point. If the river current is running 20 mph and you are with it, with a 20 mph boat, you are running down the bank at 40 mph. If against it, you are going nowhere.

The 11' 2" Coleman Crawdad is polyethylene plastic (not fiberglass), has very little freeboard, and is rated for 5 HP (I've owned mine since new in 1984). A death trap with a 9.8 on a river, IMO. Go with the 12' V-hull tinny.
