Re: Flat camshaft lobe 2.3 cobra
The #3 cyl exhaust lobe on my cam is flat. Does anyone know if this can be repaired or does it have to be replaced? If replacement is my only option, where would I find one? I suppose as with everything else the automotive cam will not match up to the marine?
I looked on the Doug Russel marine page and it is not available there.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
RonB
hello,
no doubt about it, a cam with a flat lobe
has to go.
but i would want to know why it went flat. what is meant by "going flat" is that the lobe lost its case hardening and the lifter wore it down. but why?
if it were mine i would not just install a cam. id have to pull engine and bust it apart to ensure all oil holes open and spraying oil where it should be.
lifters are pressure fed, and the entire oil pan is a tsunami of an oil explosion inside the pan. oil is simply... everywhere.
i would want to know why it failed. it is not normal to just fail except if oil low, or high hours, miles...
