Exactly... can't tell the difference but the HD everyone is experiencing isn't the HD these TV's are made for. This is why I recommend an EDTV for $$ saving as you can't tell the diff.

EDTV is only 480P. HD broadcasts are typically 1080i or 720p. It really is a waste of money buying a TV thay you can only view 480p on these days. 480p is only DVD quality. HDTV broadcasts have way more resolution than a 480p TV and there is a huge difference in quality. Blu-Ray and HD DVD players are available in 1080p.

Ditto what Bruce said.Go ahead and get the HD tv.
I bought my Sony for 900 bucks. One year ago it listed for 1999.00
The prices will keep coming down as the technology gets better.
I found 2 more broadcast channels last night that just went HD..

OK take this with a grain of slat from a guy who just installed an antenna in his attic because he was tired of having to adjust the rabbit ears..

There are only a few panel makers and you will get the best deal on the name brand tv's if you go with one of those makers. The off brands may be a good deal, but choose carefully. I believe LG (Lucky Goldstar for those who don't know what it stands for) and Samsung are two of the panel mfgs. I have found both experience in viewing those as well as reviews on those panels to be generally favorable.

If you don't mind dealing with an internet purchase, LCDTVs.com has great prices. Check out the panel you like in the store and order it online and save yourself a bunch.

The DLP is great technology if your going the projection tv route. Produces great colors and blacks - IMO a good DLP tv has the best picture.

Re: Flat screen buying advice needed!!!

Sorry guys ther IS NOT a lot of 1080 broadcasting going on most if not all is 720 that being said you can NOT tell the difference in the 2 anyway.

I can tell the difference in a heartbeat. Watch football on FOX and CBS and tell me which one looks better. Sometimes you cant tell......but when you can it sticks out like a sore thumb if you know what to look for.

We can debate all day long about technologies and brands. One guy will look at a Vizio and say "Wow what a great picture" The majority of HD TVs on the market look good when they are in a room and you dont have a bunch of other sets next to them. I have seen Vizios, and they arent for me..........just my opinion. They are a great price, but the colors are a bit off to me. Again.....just how I see it.

Plasmas and LCDs now have approximately the same life expectancy (Plasma USED to be much less)

Plasmas really no longer have a burn in issue because of pixel shift technology.

Plasmas have superior contrast ratios, which make for much richer color. They are the way to go if you watch lots of movies and a PERFECT for situations where there is not a lot of light. I'm guessing that you have never seen a 60" 1080p Pioneer.........because it is superior to ANY LCD I have put next to it.

You would be surprised how many LCDs expirience Panel problems in only a years time of use. Very rarely does a Plasma come fback for a service repair......LCDs come back daily.

Each technology is better that the others in some settings. To blindly state that one is Superior is IMO being misinformed about the technologies. As stated previously I own just about every one of the technologies out there...... they each can be superior given a certain situation.

buy what you can afford, all new higher end tv's will be 1080p, a must for blu ray/hd dvd's. as for ota/cable/sat reception, none are in 1080p but the future is near. remember you can a bad tv, turn up the brightness/contrast and make it look good when a good tv has the brightness down.
go to avsforum.com, very very good audio/video site
i bought 5 plasma/lcd/rear pro hdtv's so far, they all look great with cable hdtv, can't recommend one over the other
