Man, I have not been around these forums in a LONG time,

Anyway, as some of you may remeber I was restoring a 21' aluminum starcraft, well it is finished and working great.

So I am onto my next project. I am getting ready to buy the plans to build a 19' Flats Flyer. I am purchasing the plans from Glen-L and going to make it out of wood. I am sure i will have a LOT of questions, andI plan on having it complete by next June. Glen-L says it is a great build for 1st time boat builders.

Has anyone else built one of these? I would love to see some pictures.

I am hoping for my finished project to resemble this one:

Anyway, I will try my best to keep this thread up to date on the project.

Very cool looking project! I'm guessing you're a flyfisher chasing sea runs, rezzies, bulls and what-not around puget sound? Perfect boat for that it would seem to me. Very clean deck area, no extranious stuff to catch flyline on. Or are you planning a move? If you're staying in Stanwood will yours have a poling platform or will you leave it off? Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Cheers...................Todd

I don't think i will add the poling platform. I would never use it. I do a lot of shallow water fishing, and constantly fighting the tide, so i want something that can float in shallow water. I fish a lot outnear kayak point, and on the back side of camano island. Out their the water is pretty protected, and we rarely ever see more than 1' swells.

Around here you never see these flats boats, I think they are very cool, and serve a LOT of uses.

And yes, I am a fly fisher. I pull out the Rod and real sometimes, but fly is my first choice.

Cool project! Your project looks just like the little skiffs folks use down here in Florida to get in to skinny water (less than 12") for Bonefish, Redfish, Permit, Pompano, Trout, etc.... Where do y'all have flats up in Washington? I always thought it was generally cold, deep water with relatively large seas up there. (shows how much I know.. LOL) Congrats again on the cool project. Can't wait to follow the progress.

I can't really say we have flats up here. But the section of the bay I fish gets a really low tides, so I want something that can handle the shallows well, and still handle the calm deeper waters on nice days.

Also a lot if the rivers up here require a shallow water boat to navigate around. So I think it will serve as a good boat for what I want to fish.

Well today the cleaning of the garage has started, my dear wife started cleaning it why I was at work. I think she is about as excited as I am to help build it.

I am buying the plans on Friday.

Ok, I know it has been a long time updated on this thread. And you all probably think i gave up on the project. Well here is the update.

I do have the plans. I bought the flats flyer plans. I put together all my materials and I am gearing up to start this project in the next couple weeks.

Life has been slammed with work, holidays, family, and some unexpected things.

Anyway there is the update.
