Re: Fletcher Arrow

The only way to bend plastic like that is to heat it. The screens are moulded in an oven. I know that the likes of Plancraft have ovens to do this. It may be worth a try?

I am not at all surprised about the stingers given the state of the rest of it :) I too am having to do my transom, but so far the rest appears solid. I hope that turns out to be the case too!

Re: Fletcher Arrow

I have been offered some very dense thick plastic sheet that looks the same thickness as the transom would this be any good to put in instead of marine ply thanks again Neil

No. It would not have near the strength of plywood.

Re: Fletcher Arrow

The floatation foam is there so if the boat swamps or capsizes it won't sink like a rock. It'll keep it at neutral bouyancy, kind of submerged but not sinking any deeper than the top of the water. Vastly increases survival chances.

Hi , What sort of paint can be used on this sort of boat as I will need to paint it aswell . Does it have to be special paint or can automotive paint be used with plastic type primer? Regards Neil

I am thinking ahead to engine fitting. What instruments would anybody recommend? The engine is a mariner 60 hp (believed to be 1985 but not sure). Do you need a speedo or can would a gps suffice any advise would be grateful

Re: Fletcher Arrow

For paint, I highly recommend Petit Easypoxy for ease of application. I just painted my boat with it and it came out great.

For gauges, the most important is a tach. That will help you make sure your motor is propped correctly to be able to hit its target WOT RPM range. I wouldn't recommend a speedo. They are a pain to install and aren't terribly accurate. The ONLY reason I'm putting one back in my project boat is because it came with a functional tach and all the necessary holes in the transom are already drilled. I would not be putting one in otherwise.

Re: Fletcher Arrow

Marine ply would be the best. Properly sealed exterior ply second.

Re: Fletcher Arrow

Hi again . I have done my stringers today aswell as cutting my new floor which will be going in on moday ( I hope) the next part is the transom. I have looked at how the two halfs of the boat are fixed and after taking the rubber strip off found it is stapled together so got most of these out. When I have got the top off and old transom out how is the best way of fixing the new transom in? I was just going to resin and clamp the marine ply in then glass over the back. Would this be any good or would I be going aout it the wrong way. Many thanks again

Re: Fletcher Arrow on going

Hi again
I am looking into instruments now and need advise on what to get and how
I have a mariner 60hp 1986 with quicksilver controls . I am thinking I will need a speedo, tacho but how do i connect them is the multiplug that comes off the control box for this and can you get the plugs for it . What other instruments would I be able to fit like a temp and volt meter . Does anyone have any diagrams from the control box

Many thanks Neil

Your looks a bit worse than mine though good luck with the transom. im hoping to keep mine in as it looks ok. There seems to be some good online fiberglass suppliers let me knwo how much you pay for it in the end.
