Trying to fit a new flo-torq II hub assembly kit & new Quicksilver 17 prop. to a pre-alpha stern drive .
My question has to do with the washers behind the prop. there is a single fairly thick washer then the rather large thrust washer do these stay in place ? If so do you then put the new thrust washer that came with the kit between the old thrust washer & the prop. I tried installing without the old thrust washer & resulted in the prop being wedged & seemed to tighten against the gear housing ..I did not torque it.

Or you can run a flat anode, it will just steer easy in one direction and a tad harder in the other.

ok, are you saying leave all hardware that was behind the prop (washer & large thrust washer) in place & just get the thin thrust washer. Problem seems to be the prop is to close in & when just starting to tighten it pin's it against the casing then prop won't turn . Seems a thinner washer would put the prop closer to the housing I would think it needs to be further out that's why I'm asking about what you keep on the shaft & what you take off & replace. Thanks!

the only hardware behind my prop is the thrust washer. remove the fat one and replace it with the thinner one.

guess it could make a difference as to which side your talking about... the fore side of my prop has the thrust washer. the aft side has the nut, lock tab, inner hub for the flo torque II with the recess for the lock tab. leave all that there. just replace the thrust washer on the fore side of the prop..

fwiw, you could run the flat anode too. but imho, you'll need the tab unless ya got power steering. i know i have my tab adj. to counter torque steer.

the fore side, I originally removed the big thrust washer & replaced with the new one that comes with the kit. That's when I ran into problems seeing the prop tighten down against the casing as soon as slack is tightened by the nut. So far no problems interfering with the trim tab.

imho, use the one that works... the prop can't be in contact with the lower drive....

Thanks Ziggy, I am going to put everything back as it was then just add the new thrust washer & see what happens . I don't know that may push it out even more & require some grinding on the tab.. Like you said just mix around to see what looks right because somethings definitely wrong with the way I was told to install it. May just use the old thrust washer instead . Will check both ways . I am having more trouble than ever getting this boat back in the water...I'm older the boats older.
