Float needle and seat

Tell me what you guys think, if I found the problem or not. My carbs were getting a lot of fuel to them, flooding out and had fuel coming from exhaust at start up. I decided to open the carbs and check the floats and seats. When I took the seats out, one out of six had the plastic o-ring on it. Could this missing o-ring be the problem to the flooding?

Thats most likely the problem, a missing part almost always causes a problem for sure.
What model is your motor?

the only o ring listed on that is on the front by the jet screw plug

When I looked up the rebuild kit, it showed the Plastic white o-ring in the kit. so I figured it was needed. its like a plastic washer more than an o-ring I guess, does that make more sense.

it is a washer. I looked up the parts diagram and it lists it as a washer. sorry about that.

Whats the washer protect?
It might cause your problem.
Check that your floats will float on petrol- check that they havent become saturated and useless
Do you remember if your prime bulb held firm with engine off

The washer went around the seat, when the seat is screwed in its between the seat and carb. I do remember that the prime bulb would not stay firm, I could squeeze it until it got tight then try and start it and the bulb would be soft and it never really seemed to get real tight. its been awhile since I have tried to start it but if I remember right when it started getting tight I could still pump gas through it. I just thought that I was over powering the shut off needle, if that's even possible.

Not having the washer may of caused a problem. Id order them and then you can rule that out.
The seat would be in a slightly changed position with the washer in there and i suppose the washer may seal off any leak down the seat threads but im not certain of that.

If your primer bulb doesnt do very hard then you do have a problem there. It will go a bit softer if you try and start it. But when it is tight it should pretty much not allow you to overpower the needle unless you a jumping on the bulb or a POpeye or something.
Inspect all your needles and seats for wear. Replace if in doubt

I am thinking of just rebuilding all the carbs. The gaskets look pretty bad and buying a kit I would get all the washers with them not to mention the other parts too. Thanks for the response and helping out.

The washer is not used on all of the black plastic carbs, The carb that does not use the washer has raised spot that seals the needle seat.

The carb bowls that don't need the washer under the seat have rings in them in the seat area.

I guess I will look closer at them. but why doesn't the service manual discuss this. Matter of fact I haven't found the evinrude service manual to be much of a help on this issue at all. is there another source that is better help for carbs?
