I got a new used carb with same body # and when I opened it up the float needle was different. The one that came on the origanal carb had a "hat" that a retaining clip attached to and then attached to the float hinge but the other one did not it just sat inside the hole under the float hinge. I put the one from my broken carb in with the clip. whats the differance?

Re: float needle

OEM needles and seats will have the clip you speak of. The other style is probably some aftermarket part. That clip will pull open the needle as the float drops, used in case the needle should slightly stick shut.

Not sure, but my guess would be that your new/used one is from an older model and your original carb has a newer design to help prevent the needle getting stuck... The weight of the float can help it drop...

Re: float needle

The needles with the "rubber" tips tend to stick so they added the clip to pull it down.
