My float rise was set flush from top of float to bowl surface, float drop was about as for down as it could go without hitting the bowl. I now have the float rise at 1/8" from top of float to bowl surface, float drop is at 5/16" from same points. I have not tried this setting yet. This is what my book said to set them at but my book is also for all hp. force engines. There is not a whole lot of range of motion set per book. Before I re-set them, the carbs were leeking quite a bit of fuel from the front by the choke. The Needle and seat are in good shape (cant change the seat, pressed in.) I am waiting for new gaskets to try the new settings. Any suggestions on the correct settings and could my original setting cause the flooding?

Why did you think the floats were wrong? The very FIRST thing to do on any outboard is to do a compression test then a spark test. Bad compression can cause spitting from carb so can not firing.
Do a comp test and get back.Jerry

First thing I did was a compression test, 150, 150, 135, 150. I changed fuel pump, other owner change stator, cdi box, trigger and had the carbs rebuilt. I took apart the carbs to check and found the gaskets were leeking so I changed them. It ran good at times but then dropped a cylinder or two. I would rev up to clear out and it would run pretty good untill idle and would drop cylinders again. I checked plugs and they were all very wet. Thats when I started looking at the carbs again. I was told the lower compression on the one cylinder should not cause any serious issues other than a little loss in power. Thanks.

For the 84-on 125hp carb, clymer shop manual says to invert the carb, and measure the distance between the float and the casting, it should be 0.15-0.19in, and you bend the tab that is mostly pointing toward the float to adjust. With the carb upright, 1-1.08in between the botom of the float and the bottom of the surface above the float. Bend the other tab to adjust.

As far as losing cylinders on idle, I had this problem on my force 125. The top carb was not in sync and was closing completely in the idle position, and this was because of play in the linkage. I had to pre-tension the linkage arm a litte .

I had the same problem that you are experiencing after replacing the needle valve (w/pressed in seat). If I set float rise according to the manual that I have, flush from top of float to bowl surface, they leaked. Had to decreased the rise so that it was about 1/16th - 1/8th of an inch between the top of the float and casting measured with the carb inverted.

Thanks for the input guys, I will check those settings to mine. My linkage is pretty tight but I will double check to make sure. I messed around with quite a few 2 stoke dirt bikes and thats why I think its float related. A carbs a carb, boat, dirt bike ect.. Thanks again!!!
