Here are a few pics from a float trip I took on Missouri's Eleven Point river a little over a week ago. Like several of the rivers up there it's fed by big springs, so there are vestiges of mills along it. In my opinion the gubmint has done a great job of providing access but preserving the wild and scenic quality of the waterways. I ran other rivers while I was there, but the Eleven Point was the best by far in my book. One morning some Boy Scouts got a good laugh at my expense. As we happened upon a gravel bar where they were drying out from a flip they cautioned "don't go that way". My buddy was incredulous and asked what they meant. They said "it's too rough. It'll flip you". He told them we would show them how to do it, which was an easy position for him to take since he wasn't the one soloing the loaded tandem canoe, and I recall thinking "I really wish he hadn't said that". On the bright side we did show them a picture perfect recovery. That counts for something, right? Right? 305.jpg308.jpg322.jpg More to follow.

I bet Bubba knows what the UFO (unidentified floating object) is in the center pic.

Few more. Look closely at the one that doesn't look like much and you'll see a doe in the water. She's trying to escape two tenacious beagles.

COOOOOL PIX Incoop, luv the old overshot water wheel, that's really really old school right there. LOL

That's the thing about fast water, you really never know the depth till you tackle it, hopefully you can move from eddy pool to eddy pool and avoid the rocks.

(by the way, I need about a square yard of the material your cooking your steak on to patch the side of the shop as the woodpeckers are making some nice big hole, thanks for reminding me.)

Nice stuff Coop ... did the vice-admiral make it along with ya'?

We have a few of those old water wheels still workin' around here. Really neat pieces.

My curiosity is aroused on the UFO. We've actually got a house like that here in TN, but it's not on/near the water. I know there's a couple others out there too.

Nice lookin' trout.

No vice admiral as she's not much on float camping. I'll wait for Bubba to sound off on the UFO. Being a Missourian he'll probably recognize it right away. Rob, I got that mesh at Wallyworld when I forgot my grill grate on another trip. It actually came from the closeout section and was meant to put over a grill for cooking smaller stuff that would fall through.

Re: Float Trip Report

Forgot about this thread. In case anyone still wonders the UFO is a sucker gigging boat. It's a time honored tradition up there. They mount spotlights on big john boats with jet foot powered outboards and go out at night. They were gigging right in front of our camp. I have plenty of friends would have griped about that, but we thought it was really cool. They were very respectful and were gone long before we were ready to turn in.

Did a Google search on those boats - kinda' ice fishin' shanties, some are pretty spartan and some are REALLY decked out. Pretty cool.

Re: Float Trip Report

Next up, Boswell shoals on the White river with nephews, my brother, Pop and an uncle or two the week of Thanksgiving. I'm in a little bit of trouble with my mama for taking her oldest away for three days (his family lives in Texas), but we'll be back before Turkey Day. My penance will be cooking the bird.

Re: Float Trip Report

You made it back safe and sound....and with no references to hearing banjos and having to paddle harder!
Great trip! :)
