Flooding Carbs on 40hp Mariner

i recently bought a older model BAss Tracker TX 17 with a 40hp Mariner. the motor runs good except the carbs are flooding. i can see fuel running out of the cowling. i removed the cowl and can see fuel drippng from the air filter on the front of the carbs. it even does this while running the motor. i have not had a chance to run it at wide open throttle. but it idles good and has good acceleration... Is this a float problem or what? i will try to get the numbers posted asap. but i know its a 40 ELO but not sure of the year model but i would say it is a late 80's model...<br /><br />thanx for your help and opinions....

It's sounds like a float needle is stuck open a bit. You may need to remove the carbs and give them a good cleaning and rebuild to solve the problem. You are getting too much gas at the carbs and it's pouring the excess out. Also, check for any fuel line leaks when running at idle. Did this motor sit for long before you got it?
