It's been awhile so I thought I would show you my progress. This grinding is ridiculous. I have a little more to do on the ceiling but not sure if I need to if I cover it with some sort of headliner. I am redoing everything in this boat as it was all rotten and moldy so going to do it all new and do it right. Just about ready to put it in the shop and start ordering supplies to do the transom and stringers ect....

Nice work so far! Grinding is the worst, but when you start glassing stuff down it gets exciting! Hopping on to follow along!

I would think that their are screws to secure the track but you need to remove the at side windows.

Well I am almost done grinding! Every piece of wood has been removed from entire boat. I tried to save some like the thin plywood on the ceiling so of course I ground down the fiberglass and when i was almost done found rotten spots where the studs come through for the windows fml. I figured if I'm gonna do all this work its gonna get done with all new material. This has turned into a complete rebuild. Windows will be removed and replaced and caulked. Looks like I'm going to caulk the cap next to the windows by the captain's chair or where it would be.

Nice work! I think in all these threads not a single person has been grinding, seen rot, and not replaced it. Once you're deep enough into it, whats one more piece of wood?

Ya with that much work and money why half ass it? Makes more work but needs to be done right. I seen the same exact boat and trailer for free it looks real bad like it's been sitting outside for sometime. I thought hey could be cool me and my old man have the same boat but then I started to remember the work I have done and the ton more to come lol

Man this is never ending. Every bolt and nut is rusted so I cut them all off. They were for all the deck hardware and ect.. cut all the bolts that must be behind the rub rail that bolt the two halves together I'm guessing. Have probably 90% of the grinding done so almost there just the 10% is mainly the roof so it sucks holding a 7inch grinder above your head

Yeesh! Yea grinding above your head sounds like a messy and even itchier process than normal. Glad to see you're crushing through it so quickly! good work!

Ok so here is my dilemma I am almost done grinding except the ceiling as I explained before. It takes quite a bit of grinding because I am grinding down prob 3/8 plywood. My thought is to remove the two sections in the pictures the roof pieces and flip them over so I can grind on them while they are on the ground vs over my head. I figure It will be best to remove them to be able to reseal the window frames and stuff. Should i do it that way or should I just keep doing it over my head. Thanks for any advice. Cant add pictures getting an error

Yea for some reason the pictures arent working recently.
IMO if its a pain and its slowing you down. Pull it off and make it easier. Itll increase the speed to get it done as well as your motivation since its not a PITA

Ok so looking for so advice. Here are some pictures of my grinding. The first picture zoom in on the circled part there is a spot that is thick and it's like fraying or something. The second one you can see the small hole I put in the hull from grinding to much this spot was the same way and I was getting rid of the spot and this is what happened. I dont know if this is delamination or if it needs to be removed. Please look at the pictures best you can and tell me what you think. Do I need to do more grinding in any areas? It's not as clear to me where the strings go back but I did make measurements and sketches. The lip for the deck that is still left is just there for a reference point

Hey looking good. Yes you should remove the fray stuff to clean glass. That is going to be your bond when you do the new glass. That stuff looks like old unwetted glass. The holes are patched on the inside it looks like. At some point you will need to do the outside with a pb patch, paint or gelcoat repair. no biggy. ill just need to fill the void from the other side.

Thanks for the advice. No they are not patched at all yet. Ya I'm not to worried about the holes I know they can be fixed and the outside is no gem and needs to be redone also. Well good thing i just got some new 7inch discs lol. If you guys see anything else i should do let me know.
