im looking at a vanguard phantom but i was told the floor of the bow is a bit soft. i do not want to buy the boat and spend all my time taking it apart. stay away or no? i really do like the boat and they want 3000 which i think is fair. let me know guys. also is it normal when they say that the motor has trouble starting at the start of the season? its a 115 hp johnson. thanks!

Stay away. Generally, if the deck is soft, the stringers under are as well. It is rotting away before the owner's eyes. Oh, and some will tell you it is called a deck, not a floor. ;)

Yep, the vocabulary police will be along any minute now . . . .

Oh . . . and keep looking. I wouldn't touch that boat.

Were you by any chance talking about the boat in Orillia?

DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOUR WILLING TO DO THE REPAIRS. IF THE DECKS SPUNGY THERE MORE GOING ON THAN MEETS THE EYE. 3000.00 IS ALOT OF CASH FOR A BOAT THATS ROTTING OUT AND HAS TROUBLE STARTING. MY OUTBOARDS ALL START EASY PRE-SEASON UNLESS THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG. SO, I WOULD BE HESITANT. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE IS PROBABLY WORTH 1500.00. I WOULD PLAN ON DOING SOME WORK. AND OFFER 2000.00.
YUP!!! THATS WHAT I WOULD DO.

Keep looking! Soft deck is just signs of other problems!!!

That outboard needs a tune up bare minimum. Should not have trouble starting and the beginning of the season!

Move on!

We looked for about a year -- and every boat was THE coolest one - deal couldn't refuse, want it want it want it....

Patience pays off. Unless you have more time than money - but that doesn't work with boats ;)

$3000 is a nice budget to find a boat nowadays. You will find it and it just may start up on the first try!!!

This post is 15 days old. He is either the proud owner of a rotten boat or is still running away from it.
