How do you get the old floor up doing the least amount of damage to the hull. Thought I'd ask before I try it myself. Any tool list that is needed would help. Wellcraft 180xl 1984.

Thanks
Trent

tremer,
Welcome to Iboats forum :)
There is a 2 day worth of reading in regards to flooring issue on this forum.
Click red "search" button above and enter words loke "rot", "fooring", "floor rot" in the search box.
I am pretty sure you will get an idea of how it is done.
Another good source of info is Rot Doctor site

Good luck to you!
Post back if problems occur...

Tremer, You will likely end up cutting out the old floor with a skil saw. Make sure you know what is under the blade before cutting. Case in point. My runabout's floor is 1/2" plywood over foam. Pretty standard, except since it is a shallow vee, the plywood stops about 2" before the gunwales. To avoid cutting the hull, you must stop cutting where the plywood is still full thickness. Then you chistle out the remaining plywood, and taper the end of the new floor to fit.

Re: Floor question (newbie)

I agree. I extracted my floor from my Glastron V163 by using a circular saw down the middle where I could feel the stringers and knew where I was safe to cut, then I pried it up and snapped off the large pieces. AFter that I used a grinder with a sanding disc to get to the chunks of wood left, and of course a bunch of chisels.

Just do it one small piece at a time so that once you remove one piece, you can feel around underfloor to be sure your next cut won't be into something important!

Just be sure you set your depth of the circular saw to the depth of the plywood, and even then you can't cut right at the corners of the floor for fear of poking thgough hull.

I like the 4 inch grinder with a cutting wheel installed. I cant ever get in the tight spots with anything else
