I need to replace the floor on my '90 Nissan and have problems, too, like everyone else. After cutting the floor out about 2" inches away from the sides and picking out the old plywood I noticed the manufacturer didnt do a very good job of foam filling. So I bought some fill n seal and filled the gaps. I knew I would have overexpansion and I plan on cutting it down smooth. Then I was told to put a layer of either epoxy or poly resin down, a layer of chopped strand mat smoothed down, more resin, a layer of maybe 11 mil fiberglass cloth, then a layer of resin with a surfacing agent like MEKP, wait until it becomes a bit tacky, then lay the floor down and put weight on it to adhere better. If I am somewhat on the right page, how do I then faire the hull to the floor. Right now I plan on leaving that 2" rim on the edges to sit the new floor on. Would this be ok to do? I would then need to waterproof the edges somehow and am not sure how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: floor restore '90 Nissan 16 ft.

Welcome to iboats!!!

That seems a bit overkill to me, but I am not a foaming expert. I have in the past just glassed over my flooring material and laid it on the foam. Many others cut holes in the floor and pour the mix into the holes. I'm sure that someone with more expertise in this area will be along soon with some sound advice. Post some pics of your project, that is how everyone uses experience to share here!!!
