floor rotting

hi all, im new hear and im looking at buying a boat, it has stamped on the tag a cv156 or cv158, its hard to make out in the dark shed it is in, but it was sitting outside all last year and there is water in the nose that was never drained, so it bin there awhile. im just wondering how to do a quick check to see if any of the wood has rotted or is starting to rot. and being im up here in saskatchewan, he wants 1550.00 for it. it has a 1979 evinrude 85hp that had a 350.00 tuneup last year and it needs the seats all recovered. thanks for any help.

Without tearing it out there is nothing you can do, but walk on it and check for weak spots. How did the water get trapped in the nose anyway? Thats a good price for that boat if that is all that is wrong with it, $150 fix.

it was in the rain then put away in the shed and he never drained the water out so it sat nose down with the water and ice in it all winter. it seams pretty solid, i checked it today, thanks

Anytime water sits for a long period of time it will find a way to migrate into the wood flooring. That isn't the problem, rot is. Wood needs heat and moisture to rot. If you buy the boat, do your best to air out the cavity under the floor to reduce the chances of rot forming. I'm not familiar with the way they built the CV series, but my V178 had a layer of fiberglass over the wood with vinyl over that, but nothing underneath protecting it. My floor and stringers/foam are shot from rotting out along with the transom. Boats are designed to get wet, but not to stay wet.
