I'm planning my boat remodel (70's Starcraft Supersport). The boat has always been covered (custom cover) been stored inside for winters, etc. Do you think the stringers will need to be replaced. If they are not rotten, is there a need to replace?

I know its a tough question to answer until you see them but whatda think?

Sneak,

This is your lucky day. If it's what i think it is, it's aluminum. The stringers are also aluminum. No rot there.

At worst, the floor boards and the transom wood may be soft. Neither is very hard to replace on an aluminum boat.

The SS's are nice boats. I spent MANY hours in one.

Yes, its a 16' aluminum supersport.

Sounds like I may get out of the "replacing stringer hell". :D

The floor does feel a little soft, but I understand that its 1/2" ply, so it will feel a little soft.

Sneak,
Just about done with my 18' Starcraft. Replacing the floor is pretty easy, as long as that's all you want to do <VBG>. Send me an e-mail at gewf631@yahoo.com if you want pics or more info.

Ed
