flooring issue?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying a 1999 Lund. The only problem that I see with the boat is there were carpenter ants on the floor, maybe 12 or so. The owner swears he never had trouble with them before. He sent a picture with the center floor panel removed, doesn't show any damage. He offered to have an exterminator service it. Any thoughts?

Hi Mike, What type of Lund is it? I have a 91 Lund Tyee and there are several areas that you should be able to access to look at the wood to see if there is any damage. If the Ants have caused any damage, you should be able to see the fine shavings laying in the corners etc. Hope that helps and keep us advised. John

Its a Fisherman 1800. I hired a Marine Surveyor to do an inspection. I should be hearing back within the hour.

The Marine Surveyor said he saw no sign of ants. The wood is solid with no rot. A couple small dents in the hull, consistent with normal use. The legal papers are in order. He said the boat is used not abused, a solid vessel he would consider owning. So for $200.00 I have peace of mind and a boat in my driveway.
