Hey guys, I ripped out the rotted floor on a old Glastron I picked up from a coworker. As you can see the stringer in the middle is pretty bad. Is there any way I can fix this without fiberglassing?? I have never fiberglassed before but I have construction/home flooring experience.

I appreciate any advice you guys have. Please remember I am complete newbie in the boating world.

Re: Flooring repair

Welcome to iBoats!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is NO easy way to repair rotted stringers you will need to tear all of them out and replace them. While you're at it you should check your transom. If the stingers are this rotted, chances are so is your transom. Check it by drilling some 3/8" holes 3/4 " deep down low by the drain tube and across the bottom about 2 to 4 inches up from the bottom. If you get light tan dry shavings you're ok if you get dark brown wet shavings......

This thread will show you how to do what needs to be done.

It is NOT that difficult. Just messy and time consuming. www.uscomposites.com is a good place to get your material. HarborFreight has a 4 1/2 inch grinder and the 60 grit sanding flap pads that you will need. A tyvek suit, goggles, respirator and nitrile gloves from lowes BEER and you'll have all that you need.

Good Luck with your project

Oh yeah, 100%. It needs to GOOOOOO!!!! Do it all while you're in there and it will last 50+ years. Should take about 80 Hrs and $1,000 bucks for all of it, stringers and transom.and a lot of itchin!!!!

I would use Ext. Grade Plywood from Lowes for your deck ( by the way boats don't have floors), polyester resin and 1708 biax mat from uscomposites. Start out with 10 yard of mat and 5 gallons of resin. You'll be close to havin what you need. You can check with local body shops to see where they get their fiberglass supplies. They may have a local source that is cheaper and easier. They are also a good source for helpful hints. Check out OOPS thread on Hull Extension in progress. He is the GURU for Fiberglass techniques. Ondarvar is Very Good too!

Hello Kid..

Just FYI.. It looks that there was a small Diag where the cuts are in the stringer for floor support ( criss-cross thingy ).

The rest of it is Toast :( .. but good news.. you can now make it Any way you want :)

What do you mean the rest is toast. I have no clue to fiberglass anything. If I removed the old stringers and fiberglass.. I dont know how to attach the new stringers to the hull. Not toast for me.

Don't worry. You can do it. Just do as the others have suggested. Jump around this site and read, read, read. There are a bunch of great people here that will help you along the way. However, you will need to do your share of research first.

I am a CPA and was not very handy with wood (could hardly cut straight lines) and had zero experience with fiberglass. I read a lot, got some good advice, and was able to do a passable job. Everything isn't pretty, but what I have finished so far seems stronger than what was there in the 1st place. I still have a lot to do, but I almost feel like I know what I am doing now.
