Florida get together May 15,16,17

we are getting together for weekend of fun, fishing, boating skiing, and tell the truth and lies.

it will be at Lake Griffin State Park, Fruitland Park, Fl. 30 miles south of Ocala, 3 miles north of Leesburg, Harris Chain of Lakes area.

you are responsible for making your own accomodations, camping at the park make reservations thru http://www.reserveamerica.com/Campi...ndex=campDetail&contractCode=FL&parkId=281046

they make all the reservations for the Fl State Parks. there are motels with in 3 miles of the park, for the softies

i do need a commitment if you want to attend, these are not easy to organize, and a lot of works goes into them. there will be some prizes, etc. But most of all, it will be a good time for all.

family, friends, non members are more than welcome. bring you guitar, fiddle, harp, keyboard, pets. you can consult with me about alcohol. no firearms are allowed.

Sounds like fun!, and it's only about 2hr away. I'll see what we have going on in May. Could be an early B-Day present for me. I'll see what tent sights go for, dog rules, fire rules ect.

For those of you who are not familiar with Google maps there is a tool bar on the left that allows you to zoom in and out from an aerial view. You can pan the map by holding down the left mouse button on the map and scroll left, right, up, down, etc... to reposition the map.

i check something today and inquired, there is a bridge between the Park and the Lake, it's clearance is only 7-9 feet depending on water level. this may hinder some of the larger boats.

Anyhow, looks more promising for our attendance. It would be my wife, 2 kids, and myself. We will probably stay at a motel...not sure yet.

This is tentative brakes installed on trailer prior to trip.

hell man, I'm only about 40 min away, I bought my pontoon boat from Dead River Marina, if the wife dosen't object I will almost definately drive/trailer it over for one of the days, I'm also e-mailing my buddy and his wife, who live right there in Leesburg to let them know about it.....I test drove my pontoon on one of those lakes over there, the water has algie that blooms in the summer ( brown and nasty ) and I do believe there are gators there ....I'll keep an eye on that thread too....thanks

Just an FYI... the algae bloom that happens in the summer heat is over and the lakes look a little clearer. Also the water is up about a foot and a half courtesy of TS Fay last year. There are numerous hotels within 15 minutes of the park if camping isn't your persuasion. I live just off the eastern side of the park near Lake Griffin and try to spend every weekend out on the water weather permitting and will keep y'all informed on conditions of the lakes.

The Picciola Bridge that you'll have to navigate if you launch from Lake Griffin State park has about 7 feet of clearance and the toons from the retirement park have no problem navigating through there (they generally drop the bimini tops though). The Lake County Water Authority spent quite a few months dredging the Dead River to improve access.
