Just got back from the Keys, after having dived and fished there for many years, I am sad to say that it is about burnt out. The water in the Gulf side is so warm that it is almost uncomfortable, and was as dirty as I have ever seen it, probably due to the passage of the hurricane. Looks as if the years of millions of people working it over has taken its toll.

I agree, I too just got back yesterday from the Keys and was shocked at how cloudy the water was on the Gulf side...what a shame.

I've never been to the Keys but plan on visiting soon, and i'm sure the water is much nicer and warmer than any water up here in New England.

Hi I'm Noel in Port Orange Fl and wanted to say that my g/f an I just returned from Key Largo in May and it was great with the most beautiful sunsets I've every seen alone with the reef snoking. We run A 248 Chris Craft cruiser much like yours and found to be perfect is size for our week.
Was a trip we will never forget, makes your plans and enjoy the beautiful Keys Noel

Re: Florida Keys

Hey Noel, I used to live on Howes street in Port Orange back in 83..Hi neighbor

I used to go to the keys twice a year for about ten years..Loved it. Bahia Honda camping was awesome.

Did note, even then that wind made the water opaque.

You have to time your visit or just get lucky. any waves and the clarity goes away.

Water is pretty nice here in New England too. It's just a different kind of nice.

The keys are special but Block Island, Nantucket, Fishers I, LIS, Montauk...Maine, Cape cod are beautiful too.

Hi 5 Oclock
Just wanted to reponce to your post, I lived in Upstate New York for 54 years and yes its very beautiful but after visiting the keys and seeing the color water blueis/green which invites you to just dive in almost year round, spent 7 days this past May in Largo and have already made plans for this Oct.
to travel down for another week. Life begins where lands ends
