I was out on the boat this weekend and all I could think is it must really suck to live up north and just stare at your boat, knowing there are people like me out on the water in the warm breeze catching fish, staring at the girls in bikinis, ect. Don?t get me wrong I'm not trying to rub it in your faces or anything.....but it sure beats shoveling SNOW!!!!!!

Re: Florida Living!

I was born and raised in Indianapolis but spent 10 years in Ft. Lauderdale working at Harbour Town, Bahia Mar, and Pier 66 marina's. Admittedly, south Florida would be great about now (even better in February), but I sure don't miss the 90 degree temps with 95% R.H. that occur from May through October. While at work (right on the coast) it wsn't too bad, but when I went home every night (Margate/Coral Springs) it was insufferable. Most folks stayed indoors with the AC. As it is, we only have to deal with that for a 2-3 week period in August. I was there when Andrew hit. Don't miss that either. Truth is, there really isn't any place that has perfect weather year round.

Well, maybe Hawaii.

And, you guys will never have the thrill of ice sailing. It's pretty awesome. And it's kind of nice to get back and have a warm beverage in front of the fire place.

My Grandparents had it right, Summer up here and winter down there.

I guess we wil call it a draw... I cant stand the cold weather and would consider ice sailing or any other activity outdoors in the cold weather to be "insufferable"! and prefer boating on the Atlantic to a lake, but thats just me i'm sure there are others that would disagree.

it sure beats shoveling SNOW!!!!!!

I don't believe the girls are wearing bikinis this time of year.. I would need to see pics with dates to believe it.

BTW, in general, to those living in the southern climates, it is a duty to take pics when you are out and post them so we in the north can live vicariously through you..

That's why I like watching golf in the middle of winter. Just like to look at the course and all the "greenery". Helps with the winter blues if only for a couple of hours. Otherwise, I can't stand golf....

ps. I don't believe the bikini thing either....:D

I do miss boating in the ocean. It was always cool to get far enough offshore to loose sight of land. And, the occasional trips to the Bimini were always a great time. However, I only had a twenty five footer at the time and as I recall, the winter months were often filled with seas too high to really enjoy (still went out - just less enjoyable - lots of work and too much focus had to be maintained to enjoy the day when your boating in 5+ footers).

I also miss the women. Not sure what part of Florida your from but S.E. Florida had some of the finest looking women. Trouble is, there's too much "money" down there (60 footers are a dime a dozen) and most of the finer women were going after the money (which I didn't/don't have). Kind of like making a starving man watch at a fine steak place.:(

As for lakes, there's nothing like spending an afternoon at the sandbar surrounded by 50 - 100 (or more) boats. Most with drunken bikini clad gals.

Pro's and Con's to each. The secret is to find the happiness with the hand you've been dealt.

everytime I looked at the falling snow flakes or the leaf changed color I can't help but think it must be suck to live in FL and never get to experience a true 4 seasons. :D Never know what it is like to be bugs free for 4-5 months, to skid on snow and ice in a vehicle and oh yeah, you never get to enjoy the art of WINTERIZING.:)

You're basic assumption is that Floridians have never lived anywhere else, which is faulty. Most Floridians are transplants, HAVE experienced all that "good" stuff and subsequently realized that life can be so much better WITHOUT it! :D

Personally, I've lived where it gets VERY, VERY cold and other places where it gets VERY, VERY hot and I really like this moderately warm climate the best. Lived here 11+ years this time and won't leave again!

Well, I use a snow blower, fishing is a colossal waste of time, and seeing senoir citizens in bikinis is not my cup of tea... but yes, I wish I still lived in Florida and was boating this past weekend. I think I am going to take a vacation to my parents' house (Polk County) in March, and go boating with them! As long as they actually have water in the lakes! (That we have plenty of here!)

Re: Florida Living!

Boy, that looks COLD!

I woke up this morning to the first real frost of the season and 28 degrees. A WHOLE BUNCH of robins were outside gobbling up some of my American Beautyberries and trying to get a drink through the frozen water trough. There must have been 50 birds all around the place. I took a number of pix, plus some videos. Lots of mourning doves out there too.

Note the Coreopsis flower STILL BLOOMING at the base of the Beautyberry shrub! Yeah, it's a tough life down here! :D

Re: Florida Living!

I have lived all over the country (US), so I'm haven't missed any of the "delights" of living in the northern climes. I'll just say this - yes, it gets very hot and unbelievably humid in NOLA (worse than Fla - we have swamps everywhere!), but I don't have to shovel heat & humidity from the drive and I don't have to scrape it off of my windshield!

What do I miss? I would say fall foliage, mountains and I do miss the insanity of New York City sometimes. The whole thing about being able to get whatever you want or need at 3:00 am and having a choice of 35 places to do so, is pretty cool.

As for "senior citizens in bikinis," do you mean like this?

Yup, I hate the south. I have to put up with 21 year old women asking me to shoot them on fishing piers .... its terrible, I tell you!
