It has been a long time since I fired up my Johnson 120. The warning system is suspect and I feel that "VRO anxiety" I had when I first bought this engine. Has anyone ever put as aftermarket gauge inline from the tank to the engine? Is there any other aftermarket gauge or dummy light I can add as a backup system.

When i fire up my VRO after long storage I pre-mix the fuel and mark the oil tank to make sure it is being used. To test the no oil flow alarm you need to disconnect the oil line at the pump and start the motor and wait for the alarm to sound. When it sounds push the hose back on and see if the alarm turns off then clamp the hose back on the pump DO NOT leave it unclamped. Do all this while running pre-mix.

I should mention, that if you decide to pull the oil line off the pump you need to pump about 12-16 oz of oil from the tank through the oil line . This will make sure there is no air in the oil line and do not pump the ball when you reconnect the pump

Too simple. I could use my spare portable tank with 50:1 as my supply tank.
