Re: Fluids change

Im in the same "boat" for lack of a better term. I have a '90 5.7 and just put castrol in my motor for a good flush for a few runs and quicksilver 90w gear oil in my drive from west marine. Itll benefit you to buy the pumps either here or at the west marine but iboats has the best deal ive seen so far for the engine pump. MAKE SURE you do the drive unit correctly!!! I didnt fill mine properly last week and ended up seizing the bearing in my upper unit. YouTube or a OMC Manual is your friend if u dont get any input here

Re: Fluids change

engine - 30 WT engine oil (or 20W50, or 25W40 if you can't find straight 30)
Intermediate: 80W90 gear oil or Type C
Upper: 80W90 or Type C
Lower: Type C ONLY! (because you technically don't have an 800 series, you have an electric shift -unless you are saying you have converted your boat to mechanical shifting and fitted a 1978-1985 800 series drive to it)
Tilt Clutch: any of the above fluids you have left over - can even mix them for tilt clutch

I guess I don't have the 800 series because it is the electric shift
Thank you both very much

Guys I can not find the drain plug for the intermadiet housing for the life of me
It shows it right next to the exhaust in the Manuel but not in my case
Thanks

Re: Fluids change

Right on top of the intermediate housing, just outside of the transom boot is where it is on my electric shift.

I see that on its on top of the housing
What am wondering is where the drain plug is
The one one top is I assume the vent plug or is there even a drain plug maybe I just need to pump it out

Re: Fluids change

they don't all have drains for some odd reason. I have used an oil sampling extraction pump.
