2 Questions
1) Can running my 150 johnson on the water with the flush cap removed cause over-heat problem.
I may have run the motor this way last year.
2) What is the correct way to flush this engine. Do you run it with muffs and take the output from the flush and put it back in the res.

robert,

The flush port is not designd for running the engine. It is used to flush the engine while "off".

If you want to run the engine, cap the flush port and use muffs atound the water intakes on the lower unit.

if i ran the boat with the cap off, could i have blown a head gasket. the reson i ask is i use to have water shoot out the back of the motor when it was running but now i only grt exhaust out. I am pretty sure the impeller is fine. Plus I never ran the motor with out water going thru the impeller.

It could be that lack of water pressure due to the cap being removed, could have worn out your impeller real quick. Check the impeller again and see what shape it's in. Why would you think your head gasket is blown? Is water getting into the cylinders?

If I blew the gasket, the engine compression could leak into parts of the water chamber and prevent water from flowing thur. I dont know much about boat motors but with cars this can happen. The motor seems to run fine on the water in its current condition but my PSI gauge reads real high. Dose the gauge reading real high indicate the impeller is doing something?

robert,

Your PSI guage reading high, if anything, may be telling you about a restriction.

Do either of the top cylinders get too hot to touch, for a moment? If not, you're OK.

I have not felt the cycl. What might be a restriction, if i put water down the two holes, where it used to come out, while the engin is off the water flows down the block with no problem

To check the head, what about a compression test.
Does this damage occure much on O/B
