flush port 1999 johnson 115

any one know their way around this<br />model engine? first i noticed the <br />stream at the back of the motor was not "pissing" as before ive got flow and it registers on the gauge as normal (about 1/4 off bottom at idle)<br />and 1/2 way at normal opperating rpms<br />no over heating at all .... then i noticed that the plug that fits in the flush port was missing it was a solid plug, the replacement plug was <br />open ended with a nossle as a second part to close the hole. i never took notice of where the water came from other than "in the back end" is it suposed to exit from the the flush port? or the two vents bellow it<br />does the open port effect the focus of stream if not properly pluged<br /> <br /> i realy need help with this any leads id be thankful

I assume you are looking at water exiting from the two vents below the flush port when you have your engine idling on muffs in the yard ? The flush port is to flush the cooling system on your engine, using the garden hose, when you have the boat on dry land. Water should not exit from this port under normal operation. The port should be sealed off with a solid type plug after flushing is complete, otherwise you will loose pressure to the cooling system which could (or most likely would) result in the engine overheating. Sounds like the replacement plug you bought may not be correct. When its firmly screwed in place it should be flush with the side of the lower unit.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Mike

Think the plug is a two piece plug, the inner part has hole for water tattle tale, the orginal may have been one piece.

thanks for your reply.original plug <br />WAS ONE SOLID PIECE with a hex head for a box wrench.<br /><br />now back to the second part of the question.........<br />being "unpluged" would that effect the force or focus of the pee stream<br />again no hint of overheat or alarm<br /><br />have to say im impressed with the fourms here<br />greatings from the apple

and yes i do see water exit the unpluged port

The flush port is also the tattle tail, plug should have small hole for water outlet,which is waterpump indicater. There should also be a gasket there.

oohh - I learn't something new ! I was going off my experience with an older Evinrude that had a solid plug.<br /><br />Mike

mr.clanton's 100 % correct the two piece replacement plug and indicator had to be taken to a vice placed just right and driven home with a rubber mallet i never would have gotten it <br /><br />no charge at the dealer
