Flushing motor (How long?)

I run my motor strictly in salt water. I was wondering how many minutes is adequate to flush it with fresh water afterwards.

I flush mine for at least 15 minutes. I want a good 10 minutes or so at operating temps.

Just feel the water coming out of the pee-hole. When the thermostat opens, the water will be warmer. This means the water in the block is flushing out. If you're bold, you can do the salty taste test too.

Perry<br />I would say 15 minutes at least. On my boat use a Y adapter to screw to foscet. One side goes to both the I/O and outboard to flush motors the other side goes to hose to wash down. I turn on water to motors first and run engines then hook up wash down hose and wash boat, trailer, fishing poles, net, and pole holders at same time. Takes about 15 minutes to do a good job washing boat, trailer, and poles so that is my average. Hurry a little more when there is a line but if no one waiting take a little longer. Also I run 70 percent of the time in fresh water but when I change thermostat or water pump I still find salt in motor. Most I see when waiting to wash hook up motor for 5 minutes then use same hose to wash boat for 10.

Thanks for your helpful input guys, I will flush for at least 15 min while washing down boat.
