Just before taking the boat out of the water,
it is necessary to always disconnect the
fuel line and let the engine run until it dies?
I've heard different theories on this. I have
a 1984 9.9 evinrude outboard. Any info.
is always greatly appreciated! MB

Re: Flushing motor

mountainboy
Not unless you want to have regular carb problems.
While in the water, disconnect the fuel line at the motor and run at a fast idle 'til it's about to die, choke it 'til it quits. If you use it daily or several times a week, no reason to to it.
Use it once a week, a month or less it is the smart thing to do. Smarter is to use OMC product 2+4 fuel conditioner in fresh fuel- to keep it fresh in the tank- still run gas out of the engine. On larger engines with oil injection, do not run the gas out, use fuel stabilizer/ conditioner in the fuel. For off season storage, put one ounce of Evinrude outboard oil in each sparkplug hole, replace plugs and pull the rope slowly once or twice.
Backfire ;)
