Hey Guys.
Maybe this isn't worthy of discussion but...
What do you all use for muffs??
The cheap rectangular ones that I have really suck and looking for something better. They loosen, vibrate off, and don't have wide enough coverage.
The ones I'm looking at are the oem ones that look round ish and have a wire that passes through the outdrive instead of the metal clamp that loosens and can slip.
I've also seen some that are dual feed (with a Y to each side but to me just seem gimmicky vs functional.

They look pretty robust. Do you feel being fed on both side of the outdrive is beneficial.
Well the last time i did a side by side flusher test … i dont know i just know these work well Better than the cheap ones i had before

Dont do what my dumb ass did. I thought I would rotate the rectangular muffs 90 degrees to fit the vertical water intake grates better, boat temp skyrocketed when flushing so I shut it off. Thought wow I lucky got water pump just in time, changed it. It was perfect. When I rotated the muffs it squeezed them together so tight it blocked the flush ear water passage against the outdrive. So I put back like they came and bingo no more temp issues while flushing. Truth be told I like the ultra cheap round ones no way to orient those incorrectly lol.

The round Quicksilver ones with the metal wire clamp work the best of all I tried.

To me, they seem like they would have good coverage and not have the ability to slip off. Looks like a win win

What I found with the dual inlet ones that look like they SHOULD work great is that the rubber used is too stiff for it to flex to the shape of the lower unit. They would work better if the cups were circular and made of softer rubber. The Merc/Quicksilver ones work great. Never had a hot running problem with them.

Thanks for everyone's opinions on this post. Even though it's not technically a Mercruiser mechanical question.
Much appreciated!

Before the Mercruiser made flush out came out I always wrapped a bungee strap around the drive to keep it in place.

Ayuh,..... I've had oodles of that style, 1/4" rod, 2 round rubber cups, 1 with a hose connector,.....
Never had a problem,.......... that I didn't cause,......

I've had to swap in new hose connectors to get another lap outa broken ones,....
When the rubber cups dry out, 'n rot,.... then I toss 'em,.....
