OK, started all the winter changes for our new to us 1991 fourwinns with 3.0L, and during warmup to get oil warm for change saw temp run up to 220 and shut it down, seemed odd as usually runs 150-170 on muffs. Changed oil and ran again, sure enough headed high again. Pulled cover and found my impeller failing, nice to have it die on dry land.

I see wht alook like some calcium deposits in cavites of water passage, has anyone tried to flush out with CLR or the likes ?

Can't finish winteriztion now till I get my new impeller kit which I ordered through iboats.

What make & model outdrive do you have? If it's aluminum, DO NOT use CLR since it says specifically on the label not to use on aluminum. The "deposits" you see are most likely aluminum oxide - result of corrosion of the aluminum surface (just kind of a thin film). I would flush with fresh water only.

That's aluminum from what I can research from here. I wouldn't use anything with acid in it for cleaning. My suggestion would be to use fresh water & a stiff brush to remove deposits you can get to & flush it all with more fresh water.
