Picked up this old 1962 5.5 for a song. I had planned to just use it for parts but got it to bark on some fuel. Problem I’m having is the magneto is wanting to follow the flywheel like in the video. I’ve had the magneto plate off and everything appears to be normal. What would cause this? This is a new problem for me.

if the coils don't scrape the FW check the side throttle linkage

your video does not show the port side enough to see the linkage.

I took the linkage apart and it was still soon the same thing. I even took the magneto plate off to inspect the arm. It was not stiff at all.

I think you might be into something with the coils catching. I’ll put my locator ring on to make sure everything is lining up right. Guy before me put new coils in it. I’m thinking it will shut fine but coils are catching keeping flywheel from turning free!

Thank you.

Now paint it up and polish it good and hang it on the wall where it deserves to be. Don't you think it needs to be put out to stud? Put one of those little Asian girls next to it!

By the way your brickwork needs a little muriatic acid. 😉

This old girl still has some good days left in her. I always like to see these old girls used vs turning into garage queens. She’ll be a wall hanger soon enough.

I think my brickwork hanging in there ok. I had some bricks replace last winter so the mortar is a bit different color.
