Flywheel being stubborn

I got the boat towed, but I need to install a new ignition module, which is under the flywheel. I removed the nut holding the flywheel. I installed a puller and I put so much pressure that the holding bolts washers were bending. I tried banging the main bolt and flywheel, as well as prying, as suggested by the manual. All this and it doesn't budge. Thought about heating the flywheel with a torch, but mine is an Evinrude (1989) 48 SPL which has the S.L.O.W. on it with most of the electronics under the flywheel. Therefore, I am leery to put much heat on the flywheel. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for all of your help!

Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster while it's very tight and wait til tomorrow. If it's not off, treat again. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for it to come off. Leave the flywheel nut on loose so that the flywheel doesn't become airborne when it comes loose in the middle of the night, or whenever.

Im sure you just have a tough one,but be certain the pull is equal, and I was taught its no so much as needing to BANG the center bolt ,as much is to vibrate,we have ,using lite ballpeen or reg.carpenter hammer, tapped around the flywheel as well.again, just vibrating, you might want to buy new bolts, get the hardest you can find, the hardware stores ,or napa usually have selections in drawers,If you have an air impact ,that helps too.Do a little tapping, then bite another bit on puller

The washers used on most pullers are very thick. Regular washers won't stand-up. You might have to double or triple them up. A gentle whack with a heavy hammer does better than several hard whacks with a lighter hammer. Make sure the puller bolts are all equally and fully engaged in the flywheel and that the puller is flat. Any angle whatsoever makes it much harder. You'll be safe using heat as long as you don't get it so hot that you can't touch it without burning your fingers.

Use hardened steel bolts (grade 8) and sufficient washers, make sure it is setting level, then give it heck. If the puller breaks, get a better puller. You may have to give it a sharp whack or two on the center bolt. But don't bash it. It will come off. They remove them every day in the shop and don't have time to waste with soaking and all that stuff. An air impact wrench does help if you have one. Personally, I shudder at the mention of heat. 'Tain't necessary. It will come off.

That smiley guy is covering up the 8 as in grade 8 You could lift a HumVee with 3 of them.

#8 or nothing in my book. You can almost lift the house with one of those.

Re: Flywheel being stubborn

Thanks everybody for all the help. I soaked it with Liquid wrench & kept working and while I was standing talking to my nephew we heard a loud pop.
Now, just have one more dilemna. The 5 armature plate screws are held in with OMC Nut Lock on screws (according to manual). How do I get these loose? I've tried Liquid Wrench, but the phillips heads almost strip. Can I pervail upon you all just one more time for help?
Thanks,

use a good screwdriver, you might want to use a new bit in a ratchet setup, but before you do that,do some tapping again, tap each screw with a hammer ,hitting the driver, sometimes this breaks the bond a bit,did this engine sink?i never had that bad a time with those screws, again ,a good well fitting screwdriver, you also might want to get on that a wrench fits,or vise grip.Being careful not to break

Maybe try an impact screw driver... the type you hammer on and they turn... they work well and don't strip the head...
