i have a 1969 merc 350 (s/n 2572263) will a weak spark issue. wondering if it might be the flywheel magnet(s). does the flywheel on this year have one or two magnets on it. i have a magnet that bolts on. it is really strong however there is what looks like a counter weight on the other side. is this suppose to be a magnet too. i have a seloc repair manual which shows two magnets on the flywheels pictured. replaced all other componets in ignition system & unable to get right voltage on either plug.

Re: flywheel magnet

Could one or both of your coils be weak. Or, could it be a defective spark lead. Not familiar with mercs but, the flywheel sounds OK. How about points and timing? The magnets on mine are next to each other and there is a counterbalance opposite them.
