Flywheel magnets bridged

I finally am getting my old Gal of a 1971 100 hp running, was out for a test spin the other day, tuned it somewhat at the dock and headed out. Ran great, on the way in until I accelerated and heard a bit of a "pop". I did a compression test (good) pulled the flywheel and found a small piece of wire bridging two magnets.

Could this have caused the loss of acceleration? would only do half throttle in.

thanks, TL...

Not in itself. But where did the wire come from?

I think the wire may have got there when I set the flywheel down when redoing the plug wires and points, but not sure. It looked like one of the wires I snipped off in an earlier repair. So I guess I'll have to keep digging, hoping now it's a timing issue. Ive been chasing all kinds of gremlins on this but fortunate they have been affordable ones.
